Six packs of the standard 52-card pack are used (Sixain). Face cards count 10, and all other cards are equal to their face value. Before the game begins the croupier, at the presence of at least one player, controls and shuffles the cards.

The hand begins when the croupier, after having shuffled the cards to form mixed packs, asks any of the players to cut, handing him a black card with which to divide the mixed packs and declaring: ‘Messieurs, à la coupe’.

The croupier then takes five cards from the pack and declares: ‘Messieurs, les cinq cartes’.

The players are invited to place their bets with the phrase ‘Messieurs, faites vos jeux’. Ther are only four chances at Trente et Quarante: red, black, colour and inverse.

The croupier deals as many cards as necessary for each row until he goes over 30 but never announces the total, only the final digit (i.e. : if the total is 36, he announces ‘6’). The winning row is the one with the total nearest to 30.

If the red row wins and the first card dealt is red, the croupier says: ‘Rouge gagne et couleur’.

If the red row wins and the first card dealt is black, he announces: ‘Rouge gagne, la couleur perd’.

If the red row loses and the first card is red, the croupier announces: ‘Rouge perd et couleur’.

Lastly, if the red row loses and the first card is black, the croupier says: ‘Rouge perd, la couleur gagne’.

The croupier collects, from right to left, the losing bets and pays even, from left to right, the winning ones. When 31 après (un après) occurs, non-ensured stakes lose half of their value.

If the two rows score again 31 après, the same rule applies.

Players can ensure against the eventuality of the occurrence of ‘31 après’, by paying in advance 1% of the ensured bet.

The bank cannot advance the ensurance chips. Bets for which there is no valid proof of payment will not be accepted.

Bets played after the announcement: ‘rien ne va plus’, or after the first card is dealt, will not be accepted.

All bets are made with chips that can be purchased at the Casino cashiers.

Players are asked to control that their bets are not inadvertenlty misplaced nor changed. The chip’s position determines the bet. Players should also respect the minimum and maximum bet allowed. Inviting third parties to join the bet in order to exceed the limit is not allowed.
