2011 at Saint-Vincent’s Casino de la Vallée closes with a 3.39% increase in entry figures and a 2.83% decrease in turnover compared to 2010; in the two-year-period 2009-2011, the figures are all positive, +7% in entries and +1.5% in turnover. On account of the positive performance compared to the competitors, the market share has increased by 2.5% compared to 2009 and 1.1% compared to 2010.
During 2011 the gross income from games followed the trend started in 2010 and continued to grow until October, when the effects of the serious economic crisis, and above all the widespread uncertainty about the future of the Italian economic system were felt, and triggered a general decrease in consumption. To add to this already critical situation, new restrictions on the use of cash were imposed, which caused difficulties in the management of gaming activities.
As a result of this, in the last three months a decrease in the amount of money gambled was recorded, resulting in slightly negative figures for the total turnover from games compared to 2010, a turnover of ninety-five million sixty thousand (95,060,000) euros.
The income from Table games decreased notably (-5.7 million euros, -10%), as it certainly suffered from the drastic reduction of cash in players’ possession, whilst there was a very positive trend for the Electronic Games (+3 million euros, +7%), which have benefitted from the innovative products introduced over the last two years.
The number of people present in the Games room continues to be positive with 630 thousand people, an increase of 3.39% compared to 2010. A figure which is more than just a statistic in that it proves that the process of innovation of services and the quality of facilities that the Casino has introduced in the last few years has been appreciated by customers.
2012 will be a very important year for Casino de la Vallée S.p.A., because the consequences of the economic uncertainty, together with the possible inconvenience caused by the renovation works to the hotel and casino, will inevitably affect income, particularly when compared to the excellent results obtained in the first few months of 2011.
That said, 2012 will be fundamental for the future of the company, which is making a big investment so as to finally guarantee customers high-quality facilities and excellent services. The end of July will see the opening of the new wing of the Grand Hotel Billia, which is being totally renovated and will have 114 new rooms and 6 suites. At the same time the new Party Room, which can hold 600 people, will be inaugurated.
In Autumn it’ll be the the Congress Centre’s turn which will once again open its doors to business customers. They will have the choice of 7 rooms, including one with an increased capacity of 600 people.
The final important event planned for this year is a complete renovation of the Casino. More facilities will be available and the gaming areas will be extended and their organisation changed in order to significantly improve the players’ experience.
“The results for 2011 match our expectations, they are the best in the sector even though they are characterised by a slight negative trend. In the year 2012, which I foresee as still being characterised by a serious negative economic situation,” says the Chief Executive, Luca Frigerio, “we are making significant investments in our venues and in training our staff, to ensure that customers receive excellence in all of the services which we will be able to provide for them. In a moment of crisis, as I have already stated a number of times, nobody ever has the right formula to resist the negative market trends. The choice that we have made, precisely in this type of situation, is to make investments and bring about change, and especially, through our continued offer of something new, to provide our customers with a uniquely exciting and enticing selection of services: hotel, restaurant, entertainment, as well, of course, as games. We are confident that we have made the right choice and we are certain that customers and the market will reward our efforts.”
